All about me ... and why I built this site...

I thought it was about time I let you know a little bit more about the face behind interior-design-it-yourself.com...

So, welcome to my site...

My name is Charlotte.

I'm actually feeling very proud, as I built this site all by myself - with no prior knowledge of HTML, search engines or website building at all....!

About Me...

I live in Yorkshire, in the UK, with my husband, Ian, my fluffy ginger cat, Brian, and my retired racing greyhound, Ginger...

(no, I haven't got the names the wrong way around ... they are both gingers...!)

I now work at home - on this website - in my lovely, little country cottage.

We live in a Victorian brick cottage, in an old-fashioned, rural village.

We have lived here since 2004, after moving from an 70's estate home, in a city suburb - so we really noticed the difference!

...for decorating and in the village lifestyle...

We really love our little house - it really is very small though...

We have had such fun decorating, designing, and making it into our own proper home.

I love buying all the home and interior magazines, and dreaming up new decor schemes for my home.

In 2007 I became ill with ME (also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome).

I have since had to give up work - but it seemed an ideal time, to take some time out to study interior design 'properly'...

I wanted to find out what it was that made decorating and designs 'work'...

And to find out how to give my own interior design something special...

...that extra zing - the 'wow factor' that professional interior designers always achieve.

I really learned so much on my professional interior design courses...

Including the processes real interior designers use, to come up with designs that really work...

And loads of tips and rules for arranging furniture, space and color.

I have been so impressed with the results I can now achieve in my own home, and the hints and ideas that I can provide to friends and family who ask for my decorating advice.

I wanted to share all this fantastic, useful information with others - and that is how this site was born...

UPDATE - November 2010: Lots been happening in the past few months I wanted to fill you in on...

...well, what can I tell you...

• I got married to my long-time fiance, Ian, in September...

  We had a lovely wedding day and honeymoon in Malta - fantastic!
  
  


• I also went on a training program in October, which has meant I now find myself free from my ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome symptoms!

  (The program is called 'The Lightning Process' - highly recommended!)

  This is absolutely fantastic for me, and Ian, and I've been so busy getting out and about...

  And particularly decorating the house and re-building the garden...

• I'll shortly be starting my new project, an annex to this website, concentrating on garden design

  (I've been studying this for the past year) - so hope you'll look out for this in the coming months...

• UPDATE: June 2011 My new garden design website is now up and running - you can visit it here: www.garden-design-it-yourself.com...

  I hope you enjoy it, and it helps you to grow your garden gorgeous - just like your house!



• My current project is working on an Interior Design It Yourself book incorporating some of the ideas in this website, together with some new material...

  I'm very excited about this! And hope I'll be able to bring it to you within the next couple of months - keep your eyes peeled!

UPDATE: January 2012

Volume I of my Interior Design It Yourself Book was released in September...

And Volume II will launch on 1st February.

UPDATE: July 2012

Volume II (Feb 2012) and Volume III (July 2012) are now launched - along with a bumper 'deluxe' edition of the Interior Design It Yourself books

Kindle editions of Volume I-III are also now available.

This year will also see a major overhaul of the look and feel of the website...

With a more modern look, and lots of new photos and ideas...

I've been working hard on re-vamping my website - and am awaiting some technical 'hitches' to be solved before my website gets a whole, smart, swanky new look...

Not too far away, I hope!

I'll still be working on bringing you fresh new ideas and answering your questions...
