Blue (of any shade) is the one colour I cannot live without!

by Pauline Finch-Lea
(East Sussex, UK)

From the walls in every room in my apartment, to the clothing and accessories I wear!!

Have almost finished re-designing the Living Room.
The present focal wall is a rich shade of 'Duck-egg' blue, with the opposite wall a lighter shade of the same colour, to try to make the room appear wider.

I have some beautiful fabric to make up curtains, except the blue in the pattern is more of a sky blue and doesn't sit easily with the 'duck-egg' colour.

Have purchased new 'storage' furniture, which is a high gloss black with silver doors and drawer fronts.

The fabric I wanted to use has 'gold' colouring - not silver!

Although at the moment I have a white extending table in front of the 'window' wall, which I will be changing, probably, for a black glass table with polished chrome 'legs' or pedestal.

It seems as though the erstwhile curtain fabric is going to have to be put away again, and I will need to hunt for something else!!

Really commenting, because some colours can almost become an obsession - would be interested to know if this may be detrimental rather than helpful to one's health ?

Will be posting photos of the living room when my new camera is installed on the computer, plus one wall which I dislike intensely and at the moment not sure what can be done about it!! THAT horror will be dealt with last!! lol.

Hope this comment is relevant to this 'theme'

Beautiful Blue...!
by: Charlotte

Hi Pauline

Oh I love duck-egg blue - we've had quite a few rooms in that lovely color in the past (we haven't got one at the moment though - although we've got a full pot of Dulux 'First Dawn' in the garage waiting for somewhere to use it!

Your new living room sounds lovely - I think the blue will sit really well with the gloss black and the silver - great choice!

Good idea to save the fabric for another room rather than spoil this one with it - as you love blue sure it won't be too long before you find a spot for it!

Oooh I don't know if an 'over-interest' in a color can be detrimental to one's health. Interesting thought though!

Blue is a very healing and relaxing color - so if you love it perhaps this is what you are taking from it at the moment, and you need it.

A healthy interest that makes you feel good is never a bad thing - the word 'obsession' does have negative implications though, which would imply that something about the blue had stopped making you feel good...?

The ideas on color healing in decorating color schemes suggests that red is the opposite of sky blue... how do you feel about red?

I wonder if you could add a bit of red into your life somewhere as a healthy balance to the blue? Maybe just a handbag or a top... just to see how it feels? (If you don't absolutely hate the idea!!)

On the whole, though, I would think that as long as the blue makes you feel good, go with it!

Really looking forward to seeing photos of the finished room - sounds gorgeous!

Do post photos of the offending wall when your camera is ready, and we'll see if we can come up with any ideas to help you be rid of it!

Good luck with the project

Best wishes

Charlotte x

Blue ++++
by: Pauline Finch-Lea

Blue certainly helps me feel better, stronger, and happier lol - but it did occur to me that I use it rather too often, and wondered, having read your article, if maybe it was detrimental.

However, I love most colours - Red, Yellow, Green are all amongst my favourite, also metallic silvers and golds.

I have an aversion to orange and brown being used together, although a lovely bright orange I love as with the other 'bright' colours.

I like a more 'subdued' purple, maroon, and also love fawn and brown together.

So you see, there is far too much choice, and looking through all the interior design books I have - that choice can get overwhelming.

But 'blue' is my colour - the only one I ALWAYS use!! lol.

Thanks for your comments Charlotte.

Glad you had a good holiday but pleased to see you back again.

HUGSsss

Color Crazy! Lol
by: Charlotte

Aw thanks Pauline - nice to be back with you, and my other readers, again too :o)

Sure you shouldn't worry too much about loving blue - if it makes you happy go with it!

I know what you mean about loving all the colors - think that's why I love interior design so much - I have so many ideas and want to decorate each room in my house in so many different colors...

...prefer thinking about it than the hard work bit of it though! lol

Lots of snow here today - around 8 inches so far and snowing strongly!

Hope you're keeping warm
