Burgundy Bathroom Problems

We just bought our first house. The bathroom is textured and the color is burgundy.

It's got a garden tub in the back corner and a stand up shower that has a glass door. The cabinets are light maple.

I need to know what type of theme to go with and any ideas on how to decorate. I dont know where to begin.

Keep it light!

Sorry for the delay in reply - I've just come back from a week off!

Congratulations on your new home - it's a lovely time exploring your new home, deciding on your new decor, and really stamping your own personality on your home!

I think you've actually got the basis of a really nice bathroom there, so don't feel too daunted!

Unless you really like the dramatic feel of that dark color I would be very tempted to change it!

I think a light color would work really well in your bathroom, to give a feeling of light, space and cleanliness.

A light color and a matt paint will really downplay the texture on the walls, and give a much 'cleaner' and neat look.

Any light color would work well in the bathroom - depending on your own personal preferences...

- a light tan, beige or brown would keep a warm feel, and tone well with the cabinets

- a light blue is very popular for bathrooms, with the watery connections! Light blue also makes rooms feel larger and lighter.

- light green would also work well - particularly for a 'natural' and relaxing feel. This too will help the room feel larger and more spacious.

- a light sandy gold is quite a warm feel and could give a 'beach' type feel to the bathroom - especially if combined with blues!

For bathrooms it can be nice to keep the walls quite light and neutral - you can then add stronger or brighter colors as accents - deep browns, blues, oranges or reds would work nicely with any of the colors above.
