Country cabin or wildlife feel ... any ideas?

Just purchased used 1800 sq ft double wide mobile home with cathedral ceilings.

Hunter green carpet throughout, except kitchen.

Want a country, cabin/wildlife feeling throughout. Any tips on color?

Currrently has ugly wallpaper throughout.

Living area is rectangle with fireplace in one corner, double widows on outside wall, hall entrance on inside wall, and pillars leading into the kitchen on the end, so it's a huge room.

Confused on how to cozy up the place.

Any ideas...?

Cosy it up with Reds, Greens and Golds

Hi Angie

Congratulations on your new purchase - it sounds great.

Your new home sounds really spacious - so you should not have too much of a problem using fairly dark, and warm colors to cosy it up a bit.

Obviously, if you wanted to go for a full-on 'cabin' look you could clad the walls with split logs, but you can still get the country/cabin feel without all that effort.

For any neutrals you wish to use, go for beigey off-whites, taupes and browns (don't go for a bright white).

Suitable colors are colors that you find in nature - especially think of colors of an autumn forest, and you won't go too far wrong - browns, russets, forest greens, reds, golds will all give a warm cosy feel, and an atmosphere of nature and the outdoors.

(So your carpet should go just fine.)

Go for more 'muted', natural tones, rather than very bright or fresh colors - to get the right feel.

Russet red and green are a fantastic color combination, but try to choose one as the main color, with the other as the 'accent'. (If you use colors like this (on opposite sides of the color wheel) together in the same quantities, they 'compete' for attention visually and you tend to get a 'flicker' or 'strobe' effect - not very relaxing!)

Personally I would tend towards using the green as the main color, with accents of red and perhaps gold, but if you prefer another color as your main color scheme, they will all work well together.

Try to use natural materials for your furniture and furnishings, cotton, linen, wool, leather etc ... and of course, plenty of wood - the more rustic looking the better.

You could make a real feature of your fireplace, and perhaps even include baskets of split logs (whether or not you will actually use them) to get a great country cabin feel.
