Clearly, the colors you choose for your home are very important – you have to live with them, and spend many hours looking at them, while you watch TV, eat, wash, relax and ultimately sleep.
Color Decorating and Feng Shui looks at colors in a slightly different way – colors are considered by how they affect the ‘energy’ or ‘chi’ within a room. This then affects your own energy or ‘chi’, or how you feel, in turn.
In Feng Shui decorating, colors are broadly divided into two groups – ‘yin’ colors and ‘yang’ colors.
Yin Colors
Yin colors are peaceful and calm colors.
Yin colors help you to relax.
Yin colors are pale colors – especially light blues and greens.
Use yin colors in wavy lines and irregular patterns.
Use yin colors in rooms where you want to relax and be calm.
Yang colors
Yang colors are stimulating and lively colors.
Yang colors help you to feel more active and alert.
Yang colors are bright colors – reds, yellows and oranges.
Use yang colors in straight lines, checks, stripes and grids.
Use yang colors in rooms where you want to feel physically or mentally stimulated or active.
Color decorating and Feng Shui also has recommendations on the position or direction in which you should use the different colors in your home.
Try to use the following colors in the following positions in your home, to bring the best balance and harmony to the energy or ‘chi’ of your home….

To get the best harmony and the most positive energy or ‘chi’ in your home, why not try painting the wall or walls in that part of your home one of the Feng Shui recommended colors.
You needn’t just be restricted to paint though – use fabrics, paintings, cushions, vases and any other accessories.
You can really change the whole energy and feel of a room, just by bringing in a few cushions and throws and arranging them in the right part of your home.
