Here we will show you all the best tips and tricks to get a bedroom that suits your needs. We will guide you through the essentials - and help you to make your bedroom practical as well as beautiful... Experts say we spend one third of our lives in the bedroom... We don't just use it for sleeping either - we may want to relax, get romantic, read, watch TV, work or study. Your bedroom should be functional and practical, but it should be attractive too. It should be a place that's easy to relax in - and where you long to retire to, at the end of the day...

Start with the Storage- Sorting out your storage is one of the most important practical decorating bedroom ideas.
There's no way you will be able to properly relax, in a room full of clutter. - Think about what you need to store in your bedroom.
Could any items, such as out-of-season clothing, be kept in another room? - Try and have a good clear out before starting your bedroom re-design.
Take any old clothes or bedding to a charity shop, car-boot sale, or flog on e-bay. Hopefully, you will be left with far less clutter - and only the stuff you really want. I find a good clear out very therapeutic actually - and usually uncover some forgotten favourites. - Items that are not needed on a daily basis can be stored under the bed, or on top of wardrobes.
Look out for under-bed storage - baskets, boxes and vac-pac bags, for out of season clothes or bedding.
- Think carefully as you arrange your storage - try and squeeze in extra storage space wherever you can!
- Fit double hanging rails in wardrobes, or add extra shelves above the rails, or below, for shoes.
- Consider how you can use narrow spaces for more storage - that wasted space behind the door could fit a linen basket, or perhaps a custom-built storage unit? ...for books? CDs? linen?
- Check all cupboards and drawers have enough space for you to get at them when open - sliding wardrobe doors are a fantastic space saver...

Explore unusual layouts that could provide a great storage solution.
- Choose slimline versions of free-standing furniture where space is limited.
Use a small box if you don't have the space for a full bedside cabinet - or, consider a small side-table, which could be used as a slimline dressing-table. - Create double the storage space instantly - buy two matching chests of drawers. Put one on top of the other, to create a tall-boy chest.
Or put them both side-by-side, with one large plinth covering both pieces for a neat, unified look. - Even if it is small, your room will look much neater and uncluttered if you stick to fewer pieces of furniture, but larger pieces, providing more storage space.
- Choose your furniture carefully - don't just go for fashion, go for something that is quality and likely to last well.
Looking at Layout- Firstly, think about space and layout in your room.
Make sure you have plenty of space to move around the bedroom safely. Check out these ideal spacing guidelines, for safe spaces between furniture items. - One of my favourite decorating bedroom ideas, is to concentrate on getting the room layout symmetrical.
Strangely enough, this will give your whole room a balanced feel, and make it much easier to relax in. - Before you choose the position for your bed, consider what you will be looking at, as you wake up in the morning, or sit up in bed.
- It is nice to take advantage of a fantastic view from a window - so long as it is nice and private.
But, I think one of the most interesting decorating bedroom ideas, is to position the head of the bed underneath a window. How well this works for you, will, of course, depend on the size of your headboard, whether you like sitting up in bed, and whether you can accept that some of the window will be blocked by the headboard. You may consider a cast-iron bed-head here - as it will still let the light from the window through (it may be uncomfortable for leaning on, though, in bed). - If you can get around such practical considerations, putting the bed in such a position will create a fantastic focal point of both the bed and the window.
The curtains will frame the bed beautifully - almost as if it is a 4-poster bed.
More Practical Essentials for your Bedroom- I think one of the essential decorating bedroom ideas, is to include a chair in the room. To be honest, this is not so much for sitting on, as for storage.
I find a chair in the bedroom very useful for putting clothes on, overnight. - If you often watch TV in bed, consider investing in a flat screen TV.
Position it quite high on the wall, so that you can easily watch it sitting or lying in bed. You will find it de-clutters your room fantastically. - If you listen to music in the bedroom, look out for flat-panel wall speakers. They look just like picture frames but are actually speakers.
They have a space to put the picture of your choice, to match your room decor and decorating bedroom ideas. An absolutely fantastic, ingenious idea - they sound good too, and are a great space-saver/clutter reducer, in your bedroom.
