Decorating Kids Bathrooms
Decorating kids bathrooms - hints and ideas. Read useful hints and information on creating a fun bathroom, suitable for kids of any age.Getting creative with a fun kids' bathroom should be easy. But there's actually lots to think about to create a bathroom that is practical, and still appealing to kids. - It is a good idea, when decorating kids' bathrooms, to create a neutral base, with a white suite and tiles. Your children will grow up quickly. A decorating scheme which might seem suitable when they are little, may well seem too childish to them, as they grow older.
- If you have a plain bathroom structure, you can change the wall color, and other elements, quickly and easily. You can get a whole new look to wow your kids with.
- It is important to create a space that is appealing to children, particularly if your little ones don't like bathing, or are a little nervous of having their hair washed. Make your bathroom a fun and relaxing place for kids, and your bath-time worries will soon drift away.
- Firstly, consider practical aspects to decorating kids' bathrooms.
- If your kids are very tiny, make it easy for them to use your bathroom. Get little steps for them to reach the toilet and basin easily.

- Fit a push-button flush on your toilet. It is much more kid friendly than a traditional handle.
- Think about storage. Whether your kids are tiny, with loads of bath-time toys, or teenagers, with tons of toiletries, make sure there is plenty of storage, to keep the clutter down. Position storage boxes in easy-to-find spots, within easy reach - or kids just won't use them. Boxes or baskets without lids are a real user-friendly option. Keep a shelf free for a few items which are in daily use.
- Include a large linen basket to encourage your kids to keep clothes off the floor.
- Make sure you use the correct light fixtures for wet areas - safety is all important. Water and electricity do not mix! Be very careful, and take professional advice if necessary. And remember, little kids in a bath splash - a lot!
- Combine your plain white suite and tiles with brightly painted walls. Consider using your child's favourite color. If your child changes their mind a lot, bright blues and turquoises, lime green, oranges and yellows are great cheery colors for decorating kids' bathrooms. These colors are great for kids of all ages.
- Once you have chosen your main color, choose pictures, motifs or stencils, to give added interest for your kids. Go with your kids' interests for inspiration, or choose little boats, starfishes, fishes, mermaids, lighthouses or flowers.
- If you are feeling artistically inclined, you can paint pictures onto the walls. If not (I understand) you can try stencils, wall transfers, tile transfers or stick on tile decorations.
- As your kids get older, and become teenagers, you may find that they aren't happy with too many motifs or pictures. They may think they appear too childish. Try sticking to plain wall colors. For teenagers, yellow, lime-green, pink and turquoise are all really good choices. Teenagers will probably have their own strong color preferences too.

- Use a shower curtain in the same color, or a co-ordinating color. Learn how to use a color wheel to discover ideal decorating color schemes that you know will work.
- Add big, soft, fluffy towels and a bathmat in bright colors too. Make sure your bathroom includes a large towel-rail, within easy reach - it will encourage your kids to hang the towels back up after use (.... hopefully!)
- Include lots of fun, inexpensive accessories when decorating kids' bathrooms - such as, soap dishes, soap dispensers, toilet roll holders, light-pulls. If necessary, these can be easily changed and replaced, as your child grows up.
- For younger children, include loads of fun, foaming bubble-baths and bath-toys. These make the bath a fun and relaxing place to be.
- For older children, keep bath cleaning items close to hand. Try and make it easy for them to clean up, after they have used the bathroom. You never know, one day it might just save you a job (... good luck with that!).
