Water Features

  • photos and pictures of water, seas, lakes, rivers etc

  • Place in the East or South East of your home or room
  • Clean, still water will bring a more relaxing, ‘yin’ energy, and running water is a more active, ‘yang’ energy.

Sea Salt

  • Sea salt is a cleansing energy.
  • It improves stability and purifies ‘chi’.
  • Place in the North East or South West of your home.
  • Or, sprinkle it over your floor and vacuum it up the next day.
  • Sea salt removes stagnant and stale ‘chi’, so is very suitable if this is how you are currently feeling in your home.

Plants

  • Use any indoor plant.
  • Plants bring a natural ‘chi’ in. They also reduce air pollution and noise.
  • Use plants everywhere in your home.
  • Grow plants with pointed leaves in corners. This will activate stagnant ‘chi’.
  • Grow bushy plants in front of ‘protruding’ corners. This will calm down the ‘sharp’ ‘chi’ which the corner has created.
  • In your bathroom you should place as many plants as possible.

Flowers

  • Flowers, like plants, bring a natural ‘chi’ into your home.
  • You should place flowers in your home anywhere that you want to feel more stimulated or active.
  • Consider the effect of the color on your home too. Bright colors will bring in more ‘yang’ energy. Pale colors will bring a relaxing ‘yin’ energy. Take a look here to see how colors affect decorating and Feng Shui.
  • Flowers are only a good energy when they are alive. So change the water every day, and throw out any flowers which are past their best.
  • Silk flowers are an acceptable substitute for fresh flowers. But never use dried flowers as they are already dead! This is not a good energy to bring into your home.

Clocks

  • Try to find a pendulum clock or a metal clock.
  • Use clocks to bring a more structured and organized energy into your home and life.
  • Use in the West or North West of your home.
  • Use clocks to re-align your own energies into a more rhythmic cycle.

Charcoal

  • Use artists’ charcoal.
  • This is essential to bring harmony to your home, if you have a fire source situated in the West or North West of your home.
  • A fire source could be a fireplace, boiler, cooker or oven. The charcoal represents the soil element, and so will calm the fire ‘chi’ right down.
  • Put the charcoal in a clay pot and put it close to the fire source.
  • Charcoal is also very good if you get over emotional or argumentative as it absorbs any excess ‘chi’. In this case, put charcoal in the south of your home or room.

Candles

  • Use wax candles in your home to feel passionate or intimate.
  • Candles must be lit to share their energy. Use them in the South, South West and North East of your room or home.
  • Use pairs of candles to improve or start a relationship.
  • Use one candle to share it’s calming and relaxing energy, if you want to sit in front of it to meditate.

Mirrors

  • Use mirrors to create a more active, faster, and more spacious area in your home.
  • Mirrors are ideal in dark and narrow rooms. Hang them on opposite walls (the long walls).
  • Mirrors reflect light and ‘chi’ energy around your room and make it move faster, so making your space feel more ‘yang’.
  • Try not to place your mirror directly opposite a door or window. It will just reflect the ‘chi’ right back out of your home.
  • Try not to place 2 mirrors directly opposite each other. The ‘chi’ will keep bouncing between the two and your room will feel too active or frantic.
  • Try to avoid all mirrors in your bedroom as far as possible.

Wind Chimes

  • Use wooden or metal wind chimes for decorating and feng shui, to disperse ‘chi’ around your home, and create a relaxed atmosphere.
  • The wind chime must make a sound to work properly – so hang yours by a door or window where it will move naturally, or ring it yourself quite often.

Crystals

  • The ideal crystal for decorating and Feng Shui is a spherical, multi-faceted crystal, with a cord attached.
  • Hang your Feng Shui crystal in a window where it will catch the light. This brings a natural, sunny energy into your home.
  • Position your crystal in the West, North-West, North, East or South-East of your home.
  • Avoid having more than one Feng Shui crystal in each room – the energies can become confused.
  • Activate your crystal by spinning it gently on its cord, whenever possible.

Bells

  • The best bell for decorating and Feng Shui is actually a small hand bell
  • The ring of the bell activates stagnant energies and ‘chi’.
  • Hold the bell close to yourself, and ring it out in corners, and ‘stagnant’ or dusty spots – anywhere you want to feel more ‘lively’.
  • You can also use the bell in the same way, to send out your own positive thoughts and energies around your home.
