Dining Room Asian Style Makeover - and a funny story!

Charlotte - I just want to say thanks for your e-zine and all the links therein, I bought a 130 yr. old house that needs tons of work.

That's the fun of older homes. I grew up in one and we were always refinishing, repairing and decorating.

You have taught me to be very fluid and it has opened up a wide range of possibilities.

I didn't plan my Dining Room, I inherited faux Chippendale with it and it is NOT my idea of what I want but it pleased the daughters of the deceased and ended one expense.

At an estate sale, I found a floral needle point that is the central theme in my Dining Room.

I also found one of the orange colors of that needlepoint in an oriental fan with slots for chopsticks and matching placemats!

Wally World has cheap sheet sets that go with this and I am creating slip covers for the Dining Room chairs by using pillowcases as back covers and lining them with quilting batting.

The seats will be made from the sheets wrapped over new foam or batting. And presto, I have an Asian themed Dining Room with enough else that it all pulls together.

Just a year ago, I would have done like my mother and planned than searched and missed a great opportunity to do what I wanted.


Funny story: When my parents repapered the Living Room in their house, they chose a nice Victorian print of birds. Very feathery birds.

My sis got married and Mother had her dress made with a feathered skirt and a hat to match.

They shed and Daddy took the feathers and tossed them on the plate rail when she wasn't home. The guests at the reception after the wedding loved it!

The feathers stayed!

Seeing your January Blues with the bird print paper made me remember that (from 1969).
