Dining room - elegant and sparkly!

by farah

dining room window treatment color

I'm looking to make my dining room look elegant and sparkly, with eye catching/bold colors (blue, brown, gold, silver, or white.)

My major dilemma is wall decor. I need advice on what to put on the walls on each side of the window and on the larger wall adjacent wall.

The window treatment is an espresso brown color (but sunlight filtering through makes it look light)--I attached a picture of the window treatment in the kitchen that had no light to show true color.

Any help and advice is much appreciated!

Glittery Glamour and Sparkling Sophistication!
by: Charlotte

Hi Farah

I love your dining room - I think you've got a great base there for a gorgeous room - and a bit of sparkle and glamour sounds just great!

All the colors you've mentioned would go well in the room - picking out the colors in your vase, and lifting the neutrals for a more sophisticated and sparkly atmosphere!

I really love your beautiful big chandelier - and I think that really adds to the elegant and sparkly feel - so I think that you could use lots of shimmering silvers and whites to complement and accent this!

I also think that adding some touches of gold sparkles and shimmers would complement this theme - and tie in really well with the warm tones in the wood, floor coverings and walls.

When choosing things for your room, think texture as well as color - anything light and floaty, shimmery, glossy, glittery, sparkly etc will add to this luxurious and elegant feel you'd like to create.

I think the blinds you've chosen are a great base for your window treatments - I think, though, to add that air of luxury and elegance some curtains too would really add to the feel in the room...

...and stop that wall feeling so bare!

I'm picturing some gold, shimmery curtains - satiny, voiles, or if you want to go for something much thicker perhaps luxurious velvet...

...although if you have lots of light coming through the window, something semi-transclucent and perhaps with a bit of sparkle or metallic thread running through, like a voile, would work really well at creating that sparkly, magical and elegant feel. A mixture of gold and silver would be ideal - but either would work well...

.... remember, using a lot of silver and whites will make your room feel lighter and more spacious, but maybe a bit cold! Golds will make your room feel cosier - keep to light colors so you don't make it feel too dark!

If you want to choose artwork for your room, keep to these ideas and feels too - perhaps some sparkling wall art? ...or scenes of sunkissed misty mornings, or gentle golden sunsets?

Hope this helps give you some more ideas for your lovely dining room - do come back and share photos of your finished project with us!

Good luck and best wishes

Charlotte :o)

Dining room
by: Gib

This is a nicely proportioned room and I feel at home here! Great job.

I love that you don't have curtains and would love some more detail on the shades. We have two surface surfing cats and envision shredded curtains if we hang them.

Like Linn's living room, I think this room can change with the holidays or season by just using accessories.

And I am beginning to see what my youngest is talking about with neutrals using brown.

Versatile Browns...!
by: Charlotte

Hi Gib

Yes it is a lovely room - and you are right - Farah can easily change the whole look and feel just by adding a few bits of a different color.

Brown is a lovely neutral to use - you can keep it pale so that it's not too overwhelming or darkening in a room, and it can give a lovely warm and comforting feel, that is sometimes absent if you use a pure white or cream.

Darker browns can be added for accents (a very rich feel) and these browns go with practically every color if you want to add further accents or splashes of color - an excellent choice for a base of a room!

Thanks for your comments!
