Entry/Foyer ideas

by Maria
(Atlanta, Ga,usa)

First I would like to say, I'm on the traditional side. My foyer is as such.. to the right of the front door has space to put a table, straight ahead of the front door is stairs going up.

The wall with the stairs I could put a half moon console? and straight ahead is the entrance to the family room, on your left of the front door is the formal dining, with also to the right is the entrance to the formal living accross from the wall with the stairs going up.

I wish it to have a statement without being to much.. any ideas???

Less is more...
by: Charlotte

Hello Maria

Often it's best in your entrance foyer to stay simple - less is more!

It definitely doesn't want to get too cluttered with furniture - but in most cases a half moon or slim console table will fit in well, be quite unobtrusive, and still leave plenty of space.

If you have room, how about some seating? A combined seat and telephone table can often work well in hallways.

How about storage? Does your entrance foyer become a dumping ground for coats and shoes? If so, think about hooks, shelves, shoe stands or even a smart coat stand, which can help reduce clutter.

As far as making a statement - how about doing this with color? Yellow is the perfect choice for entrance halls, being immediately welcoming, cheery and sunny - exactly the impression you want to give to any visitors entering your house.

This can range from softest lemon and primrose yellow, through to sophisticated brighter and deeper yellows and golds. Mix with black for a striking look, or with shimmering greys and sliver for a lighter sophisticated look, more suitable for smaller spaces.

A large, smart mirror is an excellent choice for a hallway/entrance way - providing light, creating a feeling of space, and on a practical level an opportunity to check your hair and makeup before you leave the house.

Or how about some striking artwork - one large colourful piece, or a whole gallery of smaller artworks or photos can create a focal point of interest for your hallway.

A large and attractive plant can also be a beautiful feature in a hallway - choose a beautiful, traditional-styled pot to match your look.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Good luck with your entrance foyer makeover.

Best wishes

Charlotte
