Free Interior Design Tips - Wallpaper Stripping

by Vicki
(London, UK)

I have never had a problem with wallpaper stripping since I discovered this great tip - it even works for nasty, thick, woodchip paper, painted over.

I don't bother with a steamer as it is far too much hassle.

First, I scour the paper all over with a knife, in a criss-cross pattern. Make quite a lot of cuts, quite close together.

Then, I always just make the paper really wet, with a sponge and hot soapy water. I leave it to soak in, for maybe 20 minutes. Then with a wallpaper stripper knife (or even just an old spatula) just get under a corner and strip!

If you get a tough bit that just won't come away, just try soaking it with more hot soapy water.

It has always worked for me, so I hope it can work for other people too...

Wallpaper Stripping made easy?
by: Charlotte

Thanks Vicki.

That is a great idea.

The steamers are quite a lot of hassle, and I find them quite heavy to use too.

I will definitely be trying it out the next time I need to remove some wallpaper.
