Furniture settings

I have 2 focal points in my living room, the TV and a fireplace, and 2 angles, so I find it very difficult to arrange 2 love seats and not reduce the size of the room.

I am open to redoing the room completely and changing all the furniture if need be.

Even selling the antique china cabinet in the corner.

Any suggestions???

focal points

Hi

I appreciate your dilemma with the layout of your room.

Having the TV as an actual focal point is not ideal - it is not an attractive thing, and you don't want it to be the focus of attention whenever someone walks into the room.

I do understand though that it is the practical focal point of your room - and it is what your attention is focused on when you are actually sitting in the room.

I do like to arrange my own living room so that there are 2 focal points - the nice fireplace that draws your attention when you come in, plus the 'practical' focal point - the TV.

I have my room arranged so that the TV and fireplace are opposite each other, then the 2 seating areas are also opposite each other, and at right angles to the fireplace and TV.

This way, you can look either at the fire or the TV. Would something like this work in your room too?

Really dress the fireplace up so that it grabs the attention - a nice picture or mirror over perhaps? ...or nice ornaments on the mantel?

Don't feel shy about arranging your seating under a window if you feel that would work too.

It can be helpful to make a layout plan - just with a piece of paper and small pieces representing furniture to scale - this will really help you to get an idea of what the room will be like after moving the furniture around, or if it is just too crowded (See more details here)

I think you should be able to work something out using your existing furniture, so hope you can find a solution to suit you...

Good luck

Charlotte
