Guest room - convert to baby room

I want to decorate my guest room so it will be inviting for whoever stays but I have no idea how.

I don't want to do anything too permanent because I'm planning on having another baby in about 4 years and that will become the baby's room.

What do you suggest?

Dual purpose room ideas...

Hello

You should be able to incorporate a well-planned guest room into a baby room in future with ease.

You can choose quality investment furniture for the pieces that you will be able to continue to use in your future baby room, and go for more budget items where you don't plan to use an item beyond the guest room lifespan.

When you pick your items, try to imagine how they can be used in their future life in a baby room, as well as in your guest room.

Storage will always be useful - for both guest and baby - so you can safely invest in quality storage. You will probably find large roomy shelves of benefit in a baby room, and equally so for any guests.

Consider the bed you want to choose? Will you be able to fit a bed in the room for later, even when you have a cot or crib in there?

If so you can choose, perhaps, a single bed with guest bed fitted underneath - this would be perfect for occasional guests, and could be used for when your baby grows a little older, especially when he/she has friends to stay.

If you don't have the space to invest in a bed like this, how about a sofa-bed? This could be used for seating in your baby room, or perhaps re-used elsewhere in the house?

Or just invest in a full-sized bed, then put in storage or sell when the time comes that you don't need it any more.

As far as colors are concerned, bright colors will be nice for a baby an make your guests feel welcome too. Yellow is a particularly suitable choice for both - being particularly warm and welcoming, or green, which is very relaxing.

Soft furnishings in plain patterns will suit both a guest's and a child's room - how about stripes?

Wooden furniture which is already, (or could be, at a later date), painted white could easily suit both uses.

Try to think what your guest might need and plan accordingly - thoughtful little touches like a bedside lamp, a well positioned mirror, or even just clean towels and flowers can make your guest feel welcome and your guest room a more pleasant place to stay.
