Home Decorating Stores Review - Dunelm Mill

by Virginia
(York)

I just wanted to share a very unsucessful trip to the Dunelm Mill home decorating store last week. I normally really like this store, find they have lots of choice and good prices.

Last week I was looking for a coffee table (which I am still yet to find, incidentally). There was a nice one in Dunelm Mill, in the discounted section as it had a few scratches on the top. (Well, that could happen easy enough once I got it home anyway, right?)

It had been reduced from £90 to £40 - a great deal! Well, we took it to the till, but the poor girl there had difficulty working out how to process the discount throught the till. She called the manager over, who proceeded to disagree with the price on the ticket, as it had one price crossed out already, and the figure wasn't precisely the 50% discount that it proclaimed to be(a couple of quid out).

She actually refused to sell it to us, except at the £50 (crossed out price) - which wasn't precisely 50% either...!

We refused to buy - mainly on principle, rather than for the sake of a few pounds - although I don't think the (damaged!) table was worth that little extra!

I think it may have had something to do with the fact that it was 10 minutes to closing time on a busy Sunday afternoon - and quite frankly, she probably just couldn't be bothered to work it all out.

The poor girl at the till was highly embarassed - and we were extremely unimpressed with the whole thing.

This (probably small to her) incident has coloured my whole opinion of Dunelm Mill home decorating store.

And I think that is a real shame for everyone...

You poor thing...
by: Charlotte

You poor thing, that does sound a disappointing experience.

Sometimes, it does seem like the days of the customer always being right are long gone...

I hope you can find an even better bargain coffee table somewhere else soon...

Loud Music
by: Anonymous

We visited the Cifton Moor,York, Dunelm store today.

They were playing horrendous music from Radio Dunelm.

We had intended to look round for a few purchases and coffee but could not stand the noise and left.

Not a way to attract customers.

We were not the only persons finding this off putting.
