Discover How Your Home Interior Lighting Makes Such a Difference to Your Room.

Did you know?....

Your home interior lighting scheme and lighting fixtures make a vital difference to your interior decorating scheme.

Don't overlook this area - you might regret it. This is a topic you probably don't find that exciting - but it's worth considering - before you finalise your interior design ideas and plans.

home interior lighting and fixtures - chandelier

  • You may decide you want extra light fixtures fitting or wall lights. Or you may need extra sockets, switches or dimmers. If so, it is best to contact an electrician before you start your interior decorating. Sometimes, wiring needs to go inside walls - and creates replastering and mess - not what you need on freshly decorated walls!

  • Try and include the lighting as an important part of your interior design planning. Your home interior lighting really can make or break your whole interior decorating scheme - both in a practical sense and in a design sense. So try to consider both.

How to include lighting on your layout plan...

  • Once you have made your decisions, it is a good idea to include your lighting ideas on your layout plan.

  • If your plans are complicated, or involve an electrician, copy your layout plan without any furniture. You can then measure carefully, and draw on the positioning of all the light fixtures, switches, dimmers and sockets you require. It will make it clear for you - and help your electrician to do a really good job.

  • If there are lots of different fixtures, produce your own key in one corner of the plan, explaining the symbols - to make sure it is all easy to understand.

  • Professional interior designers produce exacting lighting and electrical circuit plans, with symbols to industry standards, to explain their home interior lighting ideas and requirements - but don't worry! As long as yours is clear about the positions of your lighting fixtures and fittings - and you are able to explain what you want - your electrician will be able to do just fine!
