• Keep the items you use most close at hand
• Shelves above the desk are good for everyday items









• A desk tidy and letter-rack are good for essential paperwork and pens
• Consider an in-tray and out-tray to streamline your work, and keep it all tidy and in one place
• Wall-mounted baskets can help keep paperwork, or your in-tray, easily accessible, but off the desk.
• Wall-mounted hooks are very useful for lots of things!

  Even if you don't know what you'd put on them, I guarantee you that once they're up you'll soon find yourself hanging all kinds of things on them...

  ...try mini-bull-dog clips to hang paperwork on the wall-hooks.

• Screw jam-jar lids beneath a shelf unit by your desk. Fill the jam jars up with all your bits and pieces, and screw them back up for accessible and neat storage
• Try pigeon holes for organizing home office clutter - or paperwork by date or alphabetical order.
• Filing cabinets are very handy for all kinds of files.









• Larger cupboards or shelves can work well too.

  Cabinets and cupboards with doors will create a neater and tidier look for your home office designs, but will mean much more effort to get out and put away...

  ...also more space required to accommodate the door opening.

• A trolley on wheels is very useful for printers, and can be wheeled closer if you want to connect up...

  ...then sent away again, for more space around you, once printing has finished.

• Look at under-desk storage - often a forgotten gold-mine of space.

  I have a very useful little cabinet on wheels that slots just under my desk. I can easily pull it out to provide an additional surface for writing or drawing.

• For a smart and co-ordinated look, go for baskets, boxes, box-files and magazine files, that match or co-ordinate with your decor.









• Put a simple notice-board in front of your desk for essential scraps of paper, and quick reminders.
• Your bin should be close at hand - but not in the way! Perhaps under your desk, or conveniently behind you?
• Don't forget to label files and boxes clearly, so you remember where you put everything!
