Especially if you have inexpensive decorating aims, setting your budget is a very important part of the whole interior design process.

It's just not very exciting, is it?

Knowing how much you have to spend beforehand is vital to creating a great home decorating scheme that is right for you.

It is always good to keep it realistic - and, I am sure you will agree, it is better to know how far your purse strings will stretch, well before you fall head-over-heels in love with that must-have sofa or chair.

At this early stage there is no need for exact figures - unless you want to, of course. Just get a general idea.

Consider whether to borrow money to invest in your home improvements - they are likely to add value to your home - (sorry, it's got to be your decision - I can't help you there).

With your budget in mind you can now plan the scope of your interior decorating plans.

Will it be a huge overhaul of every aspect of your room? - maybe even adding an extension? - or adding or knocking down a wall? - or is your budget more modest?

Interior decorating on a budget doesn't have to be dull - or difficult. There are plenty of inexpensive decorating ideas and products out there.

For a start, you can make a massive difference to your interior decorating scheme with just a single tin of paint - and that's not expensive!

Cheap decorating ideas can be fun too - they often involve crafts and making your own unique design objects and art. If you've got kids - then why not get them involved too. Don't worry if you don't see yourself (or your kids) as an artist - you really don't need to be! Hey, believe me - I have tons and tons of experience of interior decorating on a budget and inexpensive decorating - it's just life!

It will definitely add a touch of elegance and class to an inexpensive decorating scheme. (That's my excuse for a bit of a spending splurge anyway - I think it makes sense, don't you? My fiance hasn't complained yet at least!)
