There's no need to be shy or embarrassed, we are all friends here, and I'm sure everyone has their own catalogue of decorating disasters, and things they wished they hadn't done (...but seemed a good idea at the time)!
I'm sure he won't mind me saying, but my Dad is really the worst at DIY. My Mum always says "DIY Dad Strikes Again!" when my Dad tries another job for her in the home. She's taken to doing it herself now (far safer!).
There was the time when he managed to screw the shelf brackets on all higgledy, piggledy - and more memorably, when (with a 6 year old and a 4 year old in the house) he spent ages telling us all not to step onto his newly painted front step - only to step solidly on it himself, not 10 minutes later..!
