...just because I think it's the perfect style to help you get through that last bit of winter, and start looking forward to Spring...

This is a soft and relaxing style, with a traditional outlook - suitable for historic and period homes, or for modern homes that like a classic look...

The style is still very modern though - using clean, clear colors, and mixes of truly beautiful pattern together to add interest to classical interior design themes.

Colors

The basis of this interior design theme is to use pale colors - the colors used in this mood board are pale blue, with creams, beiges and light browns...

You could also mix the neutral base (creams, beiges and browns) with other pale colors, particularly pale greens, pale yellows and pale pinks...

Keep colors light and soft, so as to make the most of available light, and to keep a spacious feeling in any room.

These colors will give a nice soft and relaxed look to your interior design ideas and room makeovers.

Wall-coverings

The real focal point of this interior design scheme is the beautiful wallpaper...

...so take care to choose a wallpaper that you truly love, and that will make an impact in your home...

In this instance we're not looking to make an impact with bright colors or bold designs, but by the sheer elegance, sophistication and beauty of the wallpaper.

This look will work best if you aim to keep your wallpaper designs dainty and small-scale - think about it being admired from close-up rather than far away...

A view from a distance should just show a delicate pattern.

Flowers, foliage, birds and butterflies are all lovely subjects for your wallpaper interior design ideas here....

I quite like this one (which is shown here in green), and I think it would work well with this home decorating style...

Patterns

In this interior design style, mix together delicate, or small scale, traditional style patterns.

You can get away with mixing together what initally may seem to be quite different pattern types if you make sure you keep something in common...

...this might be the same, or similar, color themes or groups, or similar shapes (curves for example), or styles (floral, stripes etc)...

Stripes can usually be mixed quite well with other patterns in these kinds of traditional or classic interior design themes, lending a kind of formality to your interior design ideas that can work realy well!

Don't get too carried away with stripes though - too many stripes, or too many different colors or sizes of stripes can end up looking messy, or your room could end up looking like a deckchair or a stick of rock!!

This is an ideal look for mixing different patterns together - but don't mix together too many different patterns, or use patterns on every single surface.

Three major pattern types mixed together (or three major patterned surfaces or objects) is usually enough for any room...

...and it is always a wise idea to leave some surfaces plain and simple, to give the eye a rest...

...so that it has the energy to concentrate on admiring the patterns you have so carefully chosen and positioned!

Make sure you try out sample swatches on a mood board or sample board first, to make sure that your chosen wallpapers and fabrics will work well together in your room.

Furniture and Accessories

These interior design themes and ideas will work best with simple, traditionally styled furniture.

These furniture and accessories you choose can be wood (perhaps mahogany?)...

...or a painted wood (white or cream) works really well too.

Keep to classically styled pieces, in a fairly simple style, but with soft curves that suit the soft style of the room well.

As would these tables - note you can use white painted or natural (brown) wood in this look - but I think it would be better to stick to the one wood throughout all the furniture in the room.

With so much pattern and interest in the room, it pays to keep other elements quite simple!

Think classic and traditional too, when choosing accessories for your interior design themes and styles...

This is a look that really suits those little, carefully chosen, decorative touches...

...such as a nicely turned lampstand, with pretty fringed lampshade...

...patterns on cushions, pillows and throws...

....decorative and carved frames on pictures and mirrors.

Mirrors can be a really useful decor for this look - with so much pattern on the walls, it can sometimes be difficult to choose artwork that complements the wallpaper...

...if in doubt, and wanting to fill a blank space on the wall, a decorative mirror is an excellent choice!

This gorgeous mirror, with a white decorative frame would really suit the look, and is a real bargain too!
