Kitchen Artwork issue..

We are in the middle of doing a mini-kitchen remodel and have a question about artwork on a very large and empty wall in the kitchen.

The issue is; we have an eat in kitchen and a medium sized one at that. The problem comes in because the table is off center of the large wall, because if it was centered on that wall, the doorway to the other areas of the house will be blocked and you wouldnt get through.

My husband wants artwork there after we finish our remodel; but we are at odds as to what to do.

We both want a great artpiece or two etc..but do we center it on the wall and let it be off center of the table or do we center it above the table and have it off center of the wall?

If you have ideas, photos would be best as I'm a visual learner!

Thank you!

No right or wrong answer...
by: Charlotte

Hi there

I see your problem, but there is no right or wrong answer here... its a matter of preference as to what you do.

There are several options you can take,

  • A single picture, in the centre of the wall (this may make your scheme look slightly out of kilter, or may work well, depending on how you like your look. Your table may appear awkward)

  • A single picture in the centre of the table (this will put the focus firmly on the table and art work as the focal point of the wall)

  • Three, four or five pictures in a row (this has the advantage of being able to position a picture in the centre of the table, AND the centre of the wall (or more evenly spaced across the length of the wall). This should minimise any effect that the table is awkwardly placed in the room)

I've done some (very) quick sketches to show you the sorts of things you could try. You can get a good idea of what effect might work well in your room.

You could easily try some similar simple sketches yourself, where you can better take into account the sizes/proportions between your table/wall/pictures etc, to get a better idea of what your arrangement might look like before you hit hammer to nail!

Good luck, and I hope you can find an arrangement that suits your needs...

Best wishes

Try this...
by: Charlotte

You could also try looking at some of the info and the videos on this page which might give you some more ideas...

.... and even some of the artwork itself might inspire you...

Good luck!
