Living room layout with dining table?

The room is large with 2 dbl sofa beds and 2 arm chairs. Huge Hi Fi unit and book case also a small computer desk.

I need a large dining table to serve when entertaining and as a studying table for children.

The layout of the room is awkward and the colour of furniture is dark. One more piece and the room will look cluttered :(

What can i do?

Dual purpose Living Lounge / Dinning room
by: Merice

What you need is a double Drop leaf table like granny used to have...

Its quite trendy now to get the old fashoned wooden ones and even odd old fashioned woode nchairs that you can dot around the home until needed for the dinner party etc!

...then 'Voila' the table and chairs come out in the middle of the room..

Good luck

Open plan living/dining can be tricky... but do-able I'm sure!
by: Charlotte

Hi

Some great ideas from Merice there - thanks Merice :o)

You have some big furniture, but you have a big room also, so I'm sure you can fit the dining table you want in...

Do you want the table to be separate/apart from the sofa grouping - for privacy for study or eating? ...or all as one unified room?

Have you thought about splitting up the sofa grouping? Perhaps moving a sofa, or one or more of the chairs to another part of the room?

Can you rearrange the sofa grouping? Perhaps have the sofas opposite each other?

If you feel one more piece will make the room feel cluttered, how about first removing another existing piece - is there one of the chairs you don't really need? Perhaps if it could be stored in another room you could still bring it out at times where you had guests expected?

Could your table go behind the seating area if you pulled this forward? Is this practical?

Or in the foreground of the picture you've sent? Or to the left (as you look at it)?

Do consider a fold-away table too, as Merice mentions - a great space-saving idea!

It can really help when planning a layout to put it all down on paper, then you can try out different layouts and ideas quite easily... drawing a layout plan doens't have to be complicated and it is really worth while...

Hope this helps you with some ideas about how you can incoprorate a dining area into your living area...
