Living Room/Dining Room in a Mobile Home

I live in a very small 1967 Mobile Home. I actually love the little place because it is so quaint.

The only problem room I am having is the living room and how to manage to split putting a small table I have that seats two people, and a recliner and a love seat, all in there comfortably.

Any suggestions? I already have the theme for the room picked out. I am going with the oriental reds, golds and blacks.

Please help me out with this problem I have.

Some ideas....

Hi Carolyn

That sounds a very cute home - and a great color scheme - it should be really cosy.

You don't say how large your living/dining room is, or the shape of the room, but I'm sure you can manage to fit your bits and pieces in there somehow - especially if all the pieces aren't too large!

Do you have an L-shape or an alcove of some kind where you might be able to fit your table and chairs?

You might be able to have them pushed up against a wall, or in a corner somewhere, when not in use, but pull them out further into the room when you want to use them?

Or, in contrast, rather than having them pushed up against a wall, a room can often be made to feel larger by actually having the furniture well spaced in the center of the room (you don't necessarily need to keep large walkways clear).

(Pushing furniture up against walls puts the attention straight away on the walls - the boundaries - and you see how the room is so small everything needs to pushed up right against it - so your brain picks up immediately on a small room!)

The trick I find most useful for this kind of thing is to put your sofa/love seat at a right angle to the wall - which creates a kind of partition/separation from your dining area...

...or, again, in contrast - you might like to make your eating area a part of your seating area itself - almost as if you are in a restaurant that has some easy chair seating, as well as normal dining chairs, at their tables.

You will know what works best for you, and in your home.

I would definitely recommend creating your own layout plan, and trying out some different layouts on there - it often helps you to think more creatively with your layouts, and get past the look of your room, just as you are used to it, which often helps.
