Loft Interior Design

by Ryan
(Kansas City MO)

I just recently obtained a 2nd story loft with 2000 sqaure feet. It is currently not modern and looks like an old loft from the 60's

Need some design ideas, especially with the bathroom in particular, the tub is ugly as sin. This is a huge place and is probably going to need a lot of furniture etc...

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wow - a great space!
by: Charlotte

Hi Ryan

That massive loft apartment looks great - lots of space and lovely high ceilings - a great opportunity to put your mark on the space.

Open plan living is the order of the day here, which means a unified color scheme throughtout (not necessarily just one color, but a well thought out scheme that blends well together).

You will also need to think about creating different activity areas for living, dining, TV, reading, sleeping etc.

Think about using different accent colors for walls, furniture and accessories in these areas.

Also think about how you will separate the different areas - through color (as above), through careful arrangement of furniture or through screening with actual screens, or pieces of shelving or other furniture.

Do you want the space to be open and communal? Or are you looking for more private areas?

As far as style is concerned, you may decide to actually take inspiration from the retro 60's look, and see what you can salvage for a funky retro feel.

If you fancy going more modern in feel, a minimalist interior design feel always looks good in loft apartements.
