Master Bedroom

It was an effort to combine our love for the tropics, the Carribean and Italy by using color and pattern.
I painted our 26 year old bedroom furniture, applied a glaze and coated it with polyurethane.
I made new pulls for the drawers because I couldn't afford $5-$6 for 23 of them.
I made these from wood moulding & square dowelsI cut down 2 old 5-drawer chests and made new nightstands.
This was a horrid 5 drawer chest. We removed the top, cut the two top drawers off and reattached the top.We disassembled the king-size waterbed base and cut it down to hold our new queen-size mattress & box springs.
The panels came from Italy and I went "shopping" in my own house for accessories.
The bedding was a Macy's sale plus % off and a terrific deal.
I am working on a lamp project this week which will provide reading-quality lighting at the bedside.

Gorgeous! by:
CharlotteHi Val
Just to say I love your bedroom - and what a very enterprising project.
Great colors mixed together, together with patterns... and still a lovely restful feel - and a real quality look.
I love it when you can adapt something old into something new, 'go shopping' in your own house, get great bargains at the real shops and get into a creative project too.
Looks like a great makeover - and looks like it was an enjoyable project too.
Very well done!
Thanks for sharing your project with us Val :) It looks terrific!

Additional Info by:
Val MoczygembaI forgot to add that, except for the new queen-size mattress & box springs which we badly needed, the entire make-over was less than $200 including supplies, bedding and accessories.

Master Bedroom Lamp.

These were purchase from a thrift store and re-wired.
I used a faux aged copper paint kit from a local craft store. This is the base coat
Then I put a couple of coats of clear satin finish on them
The shades were on clearance. The mat on the picture above the lamp was my color inspiration
I'm not sure I chose the best color value for these lamps.
I want to add something above the "head board". Besides minimizing the big blank space, that may be the place to pull in more of an "aged copper" color for a more cohesive look.
The total cost for both lamps was $28.
Comments and suggestions are requested!

Once again, loving your project... the lamps look great - and have worked out as a fantastic bargain again. Well done!
Verdigris is a good look for the Italian themes in your room, and will go well with the wrought iron work you have - and I'm thinking you can pull together some of the swirl patterns in your bedspread as well. So something in this color/material/pattern would probably go well.
Some ideas for filling the blank space:
-A large headboard (verdigris/wrought iron style to match) - your wrought iron wall art could shift higher up if you chose this option
-Wall hanging - could be fabric, or could be a larger version of your existing wrought iron artwork
-If you chose fabric, try to take into account the color you want to incorporate, and existing patterns (swirls) already in the room in your choice
-A mirror - you might be able to find one with a suitable color frame (a silvery color might fit well) or I'm sure you can do the same creative faux finish effect to make it match
-A large picture - the same for this - or choose one with a large mounting card the same as the picture to the right of your photo - a professional picture framer should be able to mount up a picture with your choice of mounting card color and size, to match. Again, try to work the colors of the room into the chosen picture itself, too
-A shelf, or series of shelves, high enough up so you won't be bumping your head. You could put a few ornaments on, including some in matching verdigris.
Hope these few ideas help get the inspiration going...
I feel sure, Val, that you will get your creative juices going, and come up with some great projects, to get just the look you want...
Hope it helps.
And thanks for sharing your project with us - great inspiration for us all! We'll all have to get busy!
Best wishes
Charlotte
