Teen Bedroom in Lime Green
by Bridgette
(North America)
I am redoing my daughters bedroom and she has decided to go with a lime green, bright blue, and chocolate brown boxes for her bed spread.
She wants to paint her bedroom walls lime green and have chocolate brown curtains.
I just think that it might be a little too much to have all the walls lime green and have the bedspread green too!
Do you think it would be a good idea or bad? and if bad what else could i do?
she has already purchased the comforter?

Jul 27, 2010 Keep it as a bold accent for maximum impact! by: Charlotte
Hi Bridgette
Sorry for the delay in replying - I've been on holiday
Your daughter's choice sounds lovely - really bright and vibrant - I think it sounds a great accent piece for her bedroom :o)
Such a bright and bold piece would really lose its impact though if it were surrounded by walls equally bold, so I must say, I tend to agree with you, and think that to show the lovely comforter off to its best advantage the walls would be best somewhat more subdued.
A paler green (with yellow tones) or a pale to mid blue would set off the colors in the comforter nicely, without overwhelming it as the statement piece in the room - while also keeping the overall feel in the room nice and light, and airy and spacious.
If you are going with the dark brown curtains, a paler soft brown or beige would also work well, picking out the brown tones in the scheme - a good look if your daughter wished to add many more accessories in a vibrant lime green.
(The brown curtains would work well with the pale blue or pale green too! And brighter blue and lime green accessories could also be added here)
Bear in mind when testing out with tester pots that any color will appear one to two shades darker when you have painted the whole room, than in the small patch, so if you aren't quite sure, choose a couple of shades lighter than the one you think!
Lime green and brown are a really great color choice, and really on trend at the moment, so I'm sure you will be able to find lots of bits and pieces to really pull the look together.
Hope this helps you and your daughter to decide.
Good luck with the bedroom makeover
Best wishes

Contemporary Color Choices:
Hi
That sounds like a great color scheme - very pretty, modern and sophisticated...
Have you checked out my gallery pages, there are some great ideas for teen bedrooms that you can adapt to your chosen scheme, and one very contemporary pink and brown teen room that might inspire you...
Click here to take a look at the teen decorating photos...
In a small room be careful not to get too dark with your colors on the wall - a bright pink or dark brown is probably out for all of your walls as it would make your room feel small and dark - but paler pink, taupes or pale neutrals and creams can be used, and mixed with a darker/brighter accent wall, bedding, pictures and accessories to create a striking look.
Also take a look at the information, and a couple of teen bedroom pics which may help inspire your scheme here...
If you are feeling stuck for ideas, creating a mood board with images cut from magazines or printed from online image searches may help you get a clearer idea of the look you want to go for...

Interior Design Advice for my Bedroom please
by Katy
(Inverness, Scotland)
I'm getting my own room soon.
Can you suggest a colour I should go for, please.
I want to be able to add a lot of antique, and yet fun, lively things. I don't want anything that makes it look depressing or too confined for decoration.
Please help...

Mar 13, 2008 Something dramatic! by: Charlotte
Try gold and regal purple - a very interesting color combination, with lots of personality, and definitely elegant.
You could definitely add lots of interesting stuff, antiques, knick-knacks etc, to make it your own
Yellow is a very uplifting and cheerful color, and purple is very soothing and relaxing - so I think that this would be the perfect combination
Good luck with your decorating plans. I think you will love this dramatic combination.

I would suggest going with a very light blue for the wall colors. The reason I suggest that is because most antiques are made of a richer color wood than we are use to seeing today, and having the baby blue as a backdrop to that rich color will make your pieces absolutely POP out. And after all you are buying certain pieces because they are special. Show them off!!

Jun 12, 2010 Bedroom Advice by: Maria
There are many ideas to consider.. what is your style? Are you traditional, modern, victorian, or just eclectic?
Start with your bed, is it four poster, sleigh, headboard, head and foot board. will you have a tv in the room?
I have found that whatever style you choose, paint the walls, choose the bedding, and then the accent pieces will come.
You spend more of your time in bed so spend more time and money on making it what you want it to be!!

My dorm room!
by Sami Dines
(WB, MI, 48322)
Hi! My roommate and I are looking to decorate our dorm "Gossip Girl" esque!
Any suggestions?
We want it feminine, chic, floral, and fabulous!!! any ideas please...

Gossip-tastic!
Hi Sami
I'm afraid that I have never watched 'Gossip Girl' so unfortunately don't have too much idea of the look you're aiming for... :o(
I've googled it though, and all the images I've seen, the effect is a very sophisticated and smart look - quite luxurious, and, as you say. 'fabulous'.
I found this page discussing some looks and pieces from Serena's apartment - the look the designer was aiming for was a 'simple clean look featuring primary colors' - so if this is the look you want to go for, do bear this in mind when making your own decor choices.
Click here to see the page, with pictures...
The other thing that occurs to me, is how much freedom you have to decorate your dorm room - can you paint or wallpaper walls? Bring in your own furniture?
If your decorating freedom is restricted, you should concentrate your efforts on the parts you can change - some luxurious bedding will help you get the look - bed throws, and layered up with cushions and pillows - this could be an ideal place to indulge in floral fabulousness too!
Don't neglect a statement headboard too - you could easily make one yourselves with some board, foam, fabric and a staple gun.
Can you wallpaper a wall in a statement gorgeous floral wallaper? Or if not, how about wallapering a large board to hang - or some beautiful fabric which could be draped on the wall, or pinned onto a frame?
Any chairs you have can be covered with a throw of your own choosing, and covered in gorgeous cushions.
You may also be able to change any curtains.
And of course add pictures or posters which can quickly help change the look of the room.
To get your ideas firm in your mind when you go out shopping for your new look, why not quickly make a mood board with your friend - cut out images from magazines, or printed from online, which represent the look you want to achieve, and take it with you when you go, so you have an easy visual reference.
Check out how to create your own mood board, here...
I hope this helps some, and I hope you have a fun time decorating and living in your Gossip Girl dorm room.
Best wishes
Charlotte :o)

Teen bedroom feature wall
I have a big room with a 2 metre by 1.5 metre window, have two doors on each side of room and want a feature wall but not sure which wall.
I'm on a budget of $200
......

Hi
Without a plan, or more detailed description it's very difficult to decide which wall should be your feature wall...
I suggest it could be behind the bed, though - it's always a great idea to make the bed into the feature and focal point of your bedroom - and you can do this very easily with some smart bedding, and some gorgeous feature wallpaper on the wall behind the bed-head, to draw attention to it.
So, whichever wall your bed is best suited to sit on, choose that as your focal wall.
Your other option could be to make a feature out of the wall you see when you're sat in bed. This way the feature becomes a feature purely for your enjoyment, while you're relaxing in bed, rather than for the 'look' of the room as a whole - so you can make this very personal, just for you, with things you enjoy looking at, if you choose this option.
A gorgeous wallpaper is a great way to create a feature wall - choose something special and striking, a bold color, and stunning design, that you'll love to look at day after day.
You could also use some wall-art, wall-hangings, mirror, photos/paintings, or even display treasured possessions on smart shelves (you could try putting wall-paper samples behind the shelves for an unusual and striking back-drop to your treasures).
Choose your bedding to co-ordinate well, and you already have the basis for a striking and personal look.
As you have a large window, you could also make this the focal point, and an unusual 'bed-head' for your bed, with the bed directly in front - choose some nice curtains, and you have an effective 'frame' for your bed.
However, nice curtains do tend to be more expensive than wallpaper, and often this is not the best position in the room for a bed, as it can block access to the window - but it may just work for you, so I include it as a further idea.
I hope these ideas help.
Do come back for more ideas if you're not sure how to progress, or come back and let us know what you chose, and how you got on.
Good luck with your feature wall makeover
