My workshop is Red Red Red..

I have one large room which going to turn into a workshop.. most items I bought is red, white & turquoise but the most color covers the room is RED!! red frames, red cabinet, red lamps, red chair.

Even I have one large red carpet. I was thinking to add white sofa in the room with 45X45 pillows in red & turquoise color to break the redness and chose stripes curtain which has same colors n other colors in bright.

What do you think?!!

Hi Fatma

You must love red! And why not! Red is a gorgeous, striking color - very bold and will always catch the eye! Your workshop plans sound great - very well thought out! And it should look stunning!

Red is certainly very stimulating, and should inspire you to great things in your workshop!

Do be careful with red though, as it is such a strong, and striking color, it can overwhelm and dominate a room, and even make it feel darker, and smaller.

Red has short wave lengths (visually) - this means that the color red will always 'visually advance' - look closer - and this is what can make rooms appear smaller.

You do right to think about breaking red up with other colors. White is an excellent color combination to use with red, breaking it up and giving it a lighter touch. (White tends to make rooms feel lighter, brighter and airier, so using it in combination with the red will take away a little of its intensity). You also get a nice contrast with the red.

The turquoise you suggest is also a very good color choice - turquoise belongs to the blue family - which are seen as 'cool' colors (red is a warm color), so it also helps to make your room feel larger and lighter. It, too, contrasts well with the red.

I think you've chosen a lovely color combination - the warm depths of the red, contrasting against cool whites and turquoise - it makes me think of a classic seaside theme. The stripes particularly so, too, make me think of those gorgeous old, classic, nostalgic deckchairs - lovely!

I would be a bit wary of adding too many other colors, though - these strong colors and bold contrast are quite striking in any case, and you don't want to dilute the effect too much!

I do think a few accents of a lemon/lime acidic yellow could go very well though, if you wanted to try a few touches of another color in your scheme. With the red, this is known as 'split complementary' color scheme, taking the 2 colors either side of the color opposite to red on the interior design color wheel...

In this case the opposite to red is green, so the 2 colors either side of the green: blue-green (turquoise) and yellow-green (a lime or acid yellow), would all work fantastically well together.

Add in plenty of white to lighten it up, and give a nice, crisp and clean contrasting scheme, and I think you have the makings of a very nice scheme there, Fatma.
