Off center chimney and fireplace causing problems

I have an ugly two sided white tiled fireplace with an off centered chimney (and high ceilings).

I can't seem to make it look right, help! (picture is of a black fireplace...but ours is the same design with white tile).

Fireplace Dilemma

Is that like the shape of your room and chimney too?

This is quite a striking feature in your room, and will be a real focal point in your room.

If you don't like the fire itself, can you change it for a really beautiful fire that you love? A real feature in itself?

And how about the actual fireplace? can you change that for one you like more?

It is difficult to position pictures, mirrors or ornaments on the unusual shaped fireplace - but I can see a lovely tall vase, lamp or sculpture/ornament would site very well on the left hand side (the open side) of your mantel.

If you want to create a beautiful feature out of your fireplace, you can arrange furniture around it, looking in towards it as your lovely, cosy focal point in your room...

Or perhaps you can create the fire as a quirky feature in your room - how about using different colored wall paints to make a feature of it? (Do be very careful using this technique though - as if you find your fireplace really ugly, and truly hate it - you will be only be drawing attention to these 'features' of it!!!!)

If not, you can draw attention away from the fireplace and to another part of the room by creating an alternative focal point in your room...

...for example, can you create a focal point of a really big picture?

...enhance your sofa with colorful throws, cushions etc?

...enhance your windows with some beautiful curtains?

Thank of something you can include in your room, and position it so that it is the thing you look at rather than the fireplace.

As a really drastic option - and if the position of the fire really doesn't work for your lifestyle, you could ask a builder/architect how difficult and expensive it would be to reposition the fire - or replace it with one you like better.

There are some nice gel fires available now, which don't need a chimney/flue - so these could be an option for a new fireplace, wherever you wanted it.

I hope these few different options for how to approach your fireplace problems is helpful to you.

I really think the fire/fireplace are too large for the structure you have.

A smaller 'fire' would be more appropriate (if you are able to change it) and you could place a large slim vase of artificial stems in it on one side of the fire (but not too near it).

Charlotte has brought up a number of good ideas for you to consider.

Maybe a 'flue-less' small fire placed cornerwise might suit, and you can then decorate the white fireplace 'structure' as you would like.
