Office/Meditation/Yoga Room

by Lennie
(United States)

Your site is VERY nice.

I just need to know if you have any design ideas or plans for an office/meditation/yoga room.

I am moving and have a 14x16 foot room for personal space and would like to use Eastern decor.

Thank you!

Lennie

Lots to consider....
by: Charlotte

Hi Lennie

Thanks very much for your enquiry, and for your kind comments about my site.

Your plans for an office/meditation/yoga room sound very interesting - and I think an eastern style decor would go very well in there.

Firstly: layout!

Think about how you wish to plan the layout of your room. Which task will it be used for the majority of the time?

Once you have established this, you should make sure your layout and furniture makes this task as effortless as possible, and then work the others around it.

You might want to think about what you are looking at while working, meditating or doing yoga... is there a nice view from a window, do you need to create a focal point in your room, such as a fireplace, or a wall of extra-nice wallpaper?

Think about whether you need some sort of partitioning for the different tasks? Do you want to be able to see your desk when you are trying to meditate or relax with yoga? It might make you feel more stressed if you can see your workplace.

Think about screens, or other partitioning, curtains, shelving etc, or an office that can be shut away when not in use...

Colors:

Blue and green are very good colors for relaxation.

Purple is a very good color for spirituality.

Yellow is an ideal color for stimulating the intellect, so is good for work areas - but you may find this color too stimulating for your meditation/yoga areas.

You might find this page on color therapy useful to make your mind up on the colors you wish to use:

Style:

An eastern style will lend itself very well to a yoga/meditation room - especially if you use low furniture.

Find pictures to inspire you as you put together your new look. I have a few style ideas on my pages, here:

About Asian Decorating

..also use the Google images search, or magazines, to find more photos and looks to inspire the look that's right for your room.

Wishing you much luck with your decorating project

I'd love to see how your office/meditation/yoga room turns out. Hope the move and all the decorating go well

Very best wishes

Charlotte

Meditation Centre
by: John

Hi
I am an Australian who is interested in designing a commercial Meditation centre-within a scaled-down version of the Pyramid-do you have any suggestions of the components required of a large meditation area?

Thank you

A hunt for ideas....
by: Charlotte

Hi John

Thanks for your enquiry. I'm afraid I'm not an expert on any kind of meditation, so don't know if certain components are required or expected.

I would imagine that you need somewhere comfortable to sit and the atmosphere in the room should be soothing and relaxing.

Do you need a focal point to draw your attention? Do you need facilities for playing music or other sounds?

I would imagine that the room would need to have as few distractions as possible.

Why not visit a few commercial meditation centers to get ideas for what you would both like to include and avoid for your own center.

Or if this is not possible, do a Google images search, to see different meditation centers - like this, for example...

Hope this has proved of some use to you.

Wishing you much luck with your pyramid meditation center.

Charlotte
