Suggestions for a teal bedroom?
I have a teal room with a mahogany bed what kind of bed comforter/sheet colors should i get?
I also need to know what colors are good color combos with teal?
Charlotte's Reply:
Looking 'teally' great!
Teal and mahogany is a great color combination, very classy!
You have quite a few color options to go with teal...
-teal can make small or dark rooms feel a little dark, so a bright white can really freshen things up, and crisp white sheets look great on any bed
-silver (or grey) is another option to lighten the scheme and give a little 'sparkle' to your room
-you can build on the color scheme you have already created with the mahogany and add more browns...
-or develop the browns into orangey tones which are the complementary color (opposite on the color wheel) to teal, so give a very dramatic look
-oranges, red-oranges or red can also look great
-you could also go for a more harmonious look by toning different teals, turquoises, blues and greens with your teal, to create a peacock-like, jewel effect
Hope these few suggestions give you some ideas and your lovely teal room is soon complete and looking great!

Teal bedroom makeover
by elizabeth lewis
(nassau bahamas)
tips on the decor?
Comment: By Charlotte
Hi Elizabeth
You haven't given many details, so I'm not quite sure exactly what you want tips about.
Teal is a lovely, relaxing color, with the calming and soothing blue tones, which give you that lovely, relaxing feeling, but with a slightly sharper, green twist.
Using teal with warm brown neutrals is a classic combination - these can be paler coffees and beiges, right through to deep chocolate browns.
Teal also looks good with silvers and greys, for a cooler feel.
If you'd like to mix teal with other colors, paler greens and blues will always look good with teal.
Russet tones give a sharp contrast if you wanted something very dramatic.
Teal also looks surprisingly good with mauves or lemons and yellows.
Decide if you'd like teal to be your main color for your bedroom makeover, or if you'd like it to be the accent color in smaller amounts, and perhaps a calming neutral (coffee?) or paler blue or green as the base for the scheme?
If your bedroom is small, a lot of teal (which can be quite a dark color) could make it feel smaller and darker - but this can also be a very dramatic effect, in low light conditions, too.
Whichever color combinations you choose, remember to try it out with testers first, and see what it looks like, under different lightning conditions, morning light, and night time, to see if you like it.
Remember that a whole wall painted, can turn out 1 or 2 shades darker than that small patch of tester paint appears, so do bear this in mind when choosing your final colors.
Hope this helps, Elizabeth, and do come back and ask again, if this didn't cover the specific questions you had in mind when asking.
Good luck with your bedroom makeover

Keep it Calm and Comfortable...
Hi Mini
Yes, there should be no problem with using pink and blue together like this - it is quite a common and attractive color combination, and should work well.
...and make your daughter happy too!
Try to choose a pink and blue of a similar tone (depth of color) to keep the room feeling balanced. Pale shades will keep the room feeling nice and spacious - as will the cool blue tones.
Darker blues, pinks or turquoises could be used as accents, if required.
The room would also take a mixture of other similar tones (I'm thinking pastel tones!) in small amounts, if you wanted, mint greens or primrose yellows - just keep it all to the soft, muted tones and you won't go wrong.
Hope your bedroom makeover goes well.
Best wishes

Bedroom in brown and gold
MY BEDDING IS CALLED ANIMAL PLUSH BY LUSH DECOR AND I AM NOT SURE WHAT COLOR I SHOULD DO MY WALLS.
I THINK BROWN MAY BE TOO MUCH, AS IT ALREADY HAS BROWN AND GOLD IN THE COMFORTER.
PLEASE HELP
Charlotte's Reply:
True Blue!
Hello
What lovely bedding! A great choice!
Such attractive bedding clearly needs to be kept as the focal point to your room, so you don't want a color that overwhelms this, and takes away from its impact.
A pale beige/stone would go, but if you think this might be a bit too much, my other color suggestion would be something blue.
You could try a clear pale blue, a fresh turquoise or a deeper teal, which would all look great against this color.
Try out a few on your walls with tester pots, to see how they work against the bedding, and in your room.
Hope that helps.
Good luck with your bedroom makeover - hope you get a great result.
Best wishes

Mocca Bedroom
by Diana
(Ontario,CA)
My bedroom is light mocca. Material is a darker brown with leafs on it.
I need a style. Modern would be nice.
Charlotte's Reply:
Mocca Magic!
Hello Diana
It sounds like you have a good base there for your bedroom decor - a lovely soft mocca/mocha brown, with deeper brown fabrics.
You've got lots of options for the direction you want to take this color scheme.
You can include soft creams and whites, for a very simple look - relaxing and soothing - but modern. This can also help your room stay nice and light and airy (not too dark with the browns).
It is also a good idea to add an accent color - this is where you can really define the whole scheme with your choice.
To give your scheme real 'oomph' and a vibrant feel, choose a strong, zingy color - a bright lime green, a refreshing turquoise or a powerful teal.
A vibrant fuschia pink or a bright red are also good options for an accent color.
Your accent color can be used perhaps as an accent wall (although this is by no means necessary), and in cushions, curtains, vases, rugs, pictures etc.
If you like to keep it simple you might go for a natural feel and concentrate on the very natural and earthy feel of the browns, and the element of nature brought in with the leaves.
You can create a very effective interior design scheme with these natural earthy colors, combined with other natural elements, such as wicker, stone, cotton, hessian, fur (faux fur of course), leather, wood, pebbles, leaves (including pictures of leaves), flowers etc.
Have a think about what you might like, and perhaps try out a few ideas on your own mood board
Have a look at some ideas on the bedroom gallery pages, where there are a few ideas you could adapt for a mocca room...
...or even at the gallery pages as a whole where you can find lots more inspiration.
Also take a look at a very simple decor scheme using mocca and browns mixed with whites and creams - simple but very effective - click here to see it
Hope these ideas help to inspire you Diana.
Good luck with your bedroom makeover.
Best wishes

Light yellow bedroom - with purple?
by Amjad
(Saudi Arabia)
I want your help so baaadly please,
I have a bedroom with light yellow .. and I don't know what I should paint the wall...
I am thinking of purple I wanted this color so badly but I don't know which degree of it to choose... help me please =)
Charlotte's Reply:
Classic Combo!
Hi Amjad
Thanks for contacting me - yellow and purple are a great color combination actually!
Yellow and purple are opposite each other on the interior design color wheel (find out more about the interior design color wheel here...) which means they are a classic, if dramatic, color combination.
You could go for a similar pale lilac with your pale yellow - this will keep the feel nice and light and airy, and give a soft, gentle feel to your room...
...or you could go for a deeper purple - as deep as you'd like! This can give a more dramatic, but also darker feel to your room - but can also make it feel more sophisticated, cosy and more relaxing (lilac and purples are very relaxing colors)
The only thing I would caution against is using equal amounts and intensities of the 2 colors - this can create an uncomfortable 'flicker' effect to the eye - not very relaxing!
So instead, just make one your base color, and use the other as an accent (in accessories, bedding, curtains, accent wall etc), to enhance the scheme.
Try a few shades out from tester pots to find the one(s) which work best for you and in your room.
Hope this helps you with your decision - and hope you can find the perfect shade!
Best wishes

Light Yellow Bedroom
I agree with Charlotte on her suggestions. Maybe have 'voile' white curtains and white woodwork.
The colours are very reminiscent of 'Spring" which maybe you could make the 'theme' of the bedroom?

Nice Ideas!
Thanks Pauline - some nice ideas!
I agree I think the white voiles could give a lovely, soft, really floaty, gentle feel.
If you decide to go with a Spring theme, Amjad, think of Spring Crocus flowers - could be ideal for some lovely artwork on the walls?

Bedroom Curtains and Bed Sheet
by rumanajaved
(karachi shind pakistan)
my bedroom colour is peach, one wall is cinnamon, so what colour curtains? ....printed curtains will be ok
....and what colour bed sheet and rug?
Charlotte's Reply:
Cosy Colors
Hello Rumanajaved
Your bedroom sounds lovely - very warm and cosy - and very pretty!
You have quite a lot of options to go for when choosing such accessories as this in a room, depending on the whole look you want to go for.
I would tend to try to keep to the same color group for all your accessories - most designs look best if there aren't too many different color themes floating around!
However you can always add neutral tones - creams, beiges, light browns, without disturbing the balance too much - and indeed a touch of neutral in any room does offer a little relief for the eye from a lot of color.
You have a nice warm base with orange themes, so use your curtains, rug and bedding for a color accent.
Some options to consider:
-whites and creams - these will help your room feel larger and lighter and airy - a pretty and feminine look
-beiges and taupes - choose pale browns with warm tones - quite a simple, earthy feel - warm
-a shot of a bright color such as a teal, turquoise, the right blue or the right green could look stunning ... if you are choosing a bright accent like this it's fine to use this in small quantities, and mix with more neutral whites, creams, beiges and taupes
-deep browns - a lovely rich look - dark and sophisticated - warm and earthy - but may make your room feel darker and much smaller
-oatmeal and buttercup - pale yellow tones could also look lovely and give a light, but rich look to your room
Try a couple of tester pots out to see which kind of look you prefer in your room - and how it works for you.
I hope these colors give you some inspiration for your color choice.
Good luck with your bedroom makeover - do come back and let us know how it turns out - you can show us your finished room photos, here...
Best wishes

What colour would be best for a bedroom with a pine ceiling
by Marguerita
(Australia)
I am about to have a new pine ceiling fitted in my bedroom in my heritage cottage.
The room is furnished with antique furniture (Brass bed, Rosewood dressing table and wardrobe, etc) and is fairly dark as the window opens out onto a veranda with lots of ferns and hanging baskets on it.
Would love suggestions from others as I am hopeless choosing wall colours.
Thanks

Pale and Period! by: Charlotte
Hello Marguerita
Your heritage cottage sounds lovely!
Personally, I would be rather loath to mix together a pine and rosewood (unless your rosewood happens to have a very similar hue to the pine?)
I think an interesting possibility would be to paint your new ceiling a heritage white or cream.... this would help the room feel more spacious, and much lighter and brighter too.
If you wanted to go with the pine, you could emphasise this kind of feel with a pretty 'country' look, rather than purely 'antique'/'heritage'.
Some rosewoods have a more 'orangey' tone so could look great with the pine - or a stain could be used to bring the colors of the 2 woods closer together.... my concern then would be the ceiling may feel rather dark, in an already dark room.
As far as a color for the wall goes, whether you choose to keep the ceiling wood, or painted white, I think to keep the room as light and bright as possible, you could choose a pale color.
Whites and creams are good colors for making your room feel lighter and more spacious, as are any pale color, especially pale blues and greens.
Pale blue would make a lovely contrast with the rich tones of the rosewood - however it can make some rooms feel a little 'cold'.
A pale pink would make your room feel much cosier... or a pale yellow or lemon would make it feel nice and bright, with a 'sunny' feel...which I think may be a good choice. These, too, would both blend nicely with the warm tones in the wood.
As you have a heritage cottage, with a period feel, and those lovely antiques, make sure you choose heritage period colors, from a definite, named range. These tend to be softer, and more muted colors.
Hope this gives you some ideas.
Good luck with your decorating.
Best wishes
