Small Bathroom Decorating Ideas Our Bathroom Makeover
Small Bathroom Decorating Ideas - Our Bathroom MakeoverTake a look at our bathroom makeover for some great small space decorating ideas. We decorate our tiny bathroom with no windows - and love the result. Find out what we did, here... It can be a bit of a challenge decorating a small bathroom - lots to fit in, and little space to do it in... ...and the challenge is even harder, when your bathroom doesn't have a window, or any natural light. We always seem to have had very small bathrooms, and since we've owned our own home, have never been lucky enough to have had one with a window. We've spent a lot of time and effort, over the years, decorating and re-decorating our small bathroom......with all kinds of different small bathroom decorating ideas... ...but hopefully now we've created a bathroom makeover that we are happy with. And one that will last...

This bathroom makeover has been a rather slow running affair. And it has taken us lots of time to gradually gather together the elements we wanted, to make our perfect bathroom.

Hopefully now we've done it though...So I wanted to let you have a look at some of our own small bathroom decorating ideas... - A few years ago, now, we swapped our cheap, magnolia colored bath suite for a new white one. To lift the atmosphere, and reflect more light around.
- And last year, we chose some sophisticated, large slate effect tiles for the wall, to give a simple, pared down look.
Read about our bathroom tiling project, here... - These, although sophisticated, simple and in keeping with the age and style of our little country cottage home, are rather dark...
So we felt like we really wanted to make the rest of our bathroom light and pale, to reflect as much light around as possible.

- We had a few tiles left over, and as our floor area was very small (a distinct advantage of a small bathroom!) we were lucky enough to have sufficient to use these on the floor too (they were wall and floor tiles, so were suitable).
- Unfortunately this turned into a bigger job than we had anticipated...
We discovered the plumbing for the sink had been leaking onto the subfloor (hardboard) of our previous floor, and needing to remove part of the wall paneling to find the leak, and fix it... ...leaving us with no floor, right before Christmas! Luckily we fixed the plumbing enough to leave us with a functioning sink (when I say 'we' I mean my handy other half, Ian!)
- Once we had the floor fitted, we decided to choose a new sink, and found a bargain countertop sink and tap in the sales.

- We wanted to fit the sink on top of a vanity unit type cupboard, with doors, where we could hide all our cleaning products, spare toilet rolls, etc. from view...
I think this brainwave for hiding clutter has got to be one of the best small bathroom decorating ideas! - It took us a while, but eventually we found a smart, solid, and quite reasonably priced set (including vanity unit, bathroom cabinet and tall-boy cupboard)...
It is in a pale wood, in a simple, modern style, that wouldn't be too over whelming in our small bathroom.

- The extra storage in there is great - and perfect for small bathroom decorating ideas - especially as the cupboards have doors, so we can hide much of our clutter.
- Once we had chosen this lovely, warm wood, we immediately knew which color paint we wanted to use on our wood panelled walls.
We chose a lovely light green, a soft color, very pale, with warm yellow tones, to match with the wood. - Even better, the paint was light reflective - so it would reflect all available light around the room, to make the room feel lighter, brighter and more spacious.
- It worked well, and our bathroom was already feeling more smart, modern and spacious, but still in keeping with our period home.
- Then it did take us a long time to find the finishing touches for our bathroom.
We spent many weekends shopping for the perfect mirror - but couldn't find one! And thinking about the towels we wanted to finish off the look... - In the end, in a moment of inspired desperation I think, we suddenly decided to try our over-sized hall mirror in the bathroom - it worked...
The perfect size for the space - great for all that bathroom grooming, and it bounces plenty of light back around the room, giving it that all important increased sense of light and space.

(Luckily, our old bathroom mirror works perfectly in the hallway too - so it worked well all round.) - With the mirror sorted, we just needed to go out and choose our towels. We chose some beautiful red fluffy towels - which looked perfect as a splash of color for an accent color.
They contrast nicely with the soft green tones of the wall, and cheering the decorating scheme up immensely with the nice, bright color.

- There are still, as always, a few odds and ends on the 'to-do' list to tidy up, but our small bathroom decorating ideas project now feels finished...
...and we really love the smart, modern, and relaxing effect in our bathroom. - The pale paint, and interior design tricks with mirrors, make it feel lovely, light and spacious in there now...
...and the fluffy red towels make us feel cheerful every time we see them!
We are very pleased with our bathroom makeover, and hope you like it too... And I hope you can find some small bathroom decorating ideas you might be able to use in your own home...
