Sofa set dimensions

Hi,

I have a friend of mine who is planning to buy a sofa set for her living room. She already has the dimensions of the full set.

For example the 1 seater has the following dimensions:
L - 39''
D - 39''
H - 43''

The question is how to measure the exact depth of the 1 seater.

Shall we measure from the top back rest till the end of the cushion or else from the back to the front legs of the 1 seater.

The thing is that if you measure both ways you will end up with different dimensions.
