The Bathroom - Peach/Pink Bathroom Suite

by RM
(Yorkshire, UK)

We made a modern bathroom suite look 'period'.

We made a modern bathroom suite look 'period'.

When we moved house a few years ago, to a much more expensive area, due to a job relocation, we were stretched financially after we had to take out a much larger mortgage.

This, coupled with the fact that we had to put 2 children through University, meant we had little money left for refurbishment.

Consequently what work we did do had to do be undertaken on a very tight budget.

Detailed below is how we did it.

We were also short of time & DIY skills, so used a local joiner / handy-man for the more skilled work.

Bathroom

Having bought a late Victorian house, we would have liked a white period bathroom to match. However, what we inherited was a modern bathroom suite, described as "peach" but looking distinctly pink to me!

The previous owner had only recently installed it & as we had just paid for it, we were reluctant to just rip it out & replace it. We also had other necessary & expensive restructuring work to do elsewhere.

The bath's plastic exterior panels were changed for dark mahogany wood ones, purchased from Twyfords, the original bath supplier.

All the taps & shower attachments were changed for ones that give a period feel. To this was added matching wall cabinets, shelves, toilet seat & towel rail purchased from one of the larger DIY stores, B&Q I think. An existing mirror, that matched, was used from another room.

A dado rail was added to show a clear demarcation from the existing tiles to new wall paper & to add to the period feel. The woodwork was undertaken by a local joiner & stained to match by ourselves.

Existing carpets were replaced by a white & black chequered floor. A new glass screen, that picked up the slightly continental pattern on the existing tiles, was also added.

Some period pictures (prints) on the walls completed the overall image.

Since then we've grown to like our unusual look bathroom & it has received favourable comments from visitors.

I hope to get more pictures of our renovations up soon.

I love colored bathroom suites...
by: Charlotte

Hello RM

Thank you so much for sharing your bathroom renovations with us. I think you have done a wonderful job in your home.

I love colored bathroom suites, and think you can make a very interesting and personal bathroom using them. I think you have done a wonderful job of making your modern peach/pink bathroom suite fit well into a period home - it certainly does look 'olde worlde'!

Your bathroom looks a very warm and comforting room, just right for relaxing in a wonderful hot bath!

I look forward to seeing more of your home renovation photos when you have chance to post them, and I am sure other web visitors will appreciate the inspiration too.

Thanks for letting us all peep into your lovely home.

I just wanted to thank you for reassuring me that a pink bathroom suite and little money needn't be an insurmountable barrier to my first home looking lovely! I love what you've done with yours.
