What Color Curtains for my Living Room?

by Vanessa
(Australia)

I'm planning on purchasing curtains for my home, however I am so clueless as to what will match my carpet, walls and furniture.

If there is anyone that could provide me with some guidance and advice on what colour/s curtains would suit my living that would be great.

Thank you!!!

Color Choices...
by: Charlotte

Hi Vanessa

The good news is that you have provided a very good basis there for your design ... you just need to choose an accent now to give your design some life and soul.

Your room is quite neutral, so you can choose any color you'd like to add to your room.

Do you like that very clean, neutral look? You could just continue with this look with more creams, taupes, beiges and perhaps dark chocolate browns to add a little depth - perhaps you could look for curtains with a pattern of leaves in creams and browns?

Or do you want to add a real splash of color to your room?

It can be great to add an accent of a really bright, bold color - to your room - because you are only using the accent color in small amounts in doesn't need to be too overpowering.

Som bold accent colors which I think could look good in your living room are:

-bright red
-turquoise
-teal
-zingy lime green
-bright yellow

Red is quite a bold, lively and modern look.

The turquoise or lime green would give a fresh, clean feel - quite light and airy.

Teal is a deeper, more sophisticated and relaxing feel.

The yellow would give a very bright, cheery feel - welcoming and sunshiney.

Other colors you could think about would be more muted colors - I'm specifically thinking various rusts, russets, terracottas, peaches and oranges - this would give a warm and cosy feel to your room - and would pick out the lovely rich, warm tones in the brick and carpet too.

As well as choosing the color for curtains, try to add a few other touches of it into the room - to balance the color out a little - accents you might like to try in your new color could be:

-cushions
-rug
-pictures and artworks
-vases
-ornaments

A little does go a long way for accents - so you don't need to add too much!

Perhaps if you have a favorite color this could be a good starting point for your curtains and accents....

...you could take a look at this page on how color relates to your own personality and 'mood' in a room to help you make your decision.

Do hope this information has helped.

Good luck with choosing your color.

Best wishes

Charlotte

Colour Curtains For Living Room
by: P Finch-Lea

What a beautiful Living Room, Vanessa.

Maybe keep to the colour scheme you have - and use cream > beige > ochre for your curtains.

But go for a stunning 'pelmet' which matches the curtains. This will outline and beautify what you already have, and keep to the minimalist, warm and comfortable aura that emanates from your photograph.

Look for 'window treatments' - curtain 'designs' and see if there is anything there that you like.

You can also add maybe an orange, brown, green colour to the pelmet, by interweaving.

Whatever you choose, make sure it is a colour/s that uplift and inspire you, and that you feel most comfortable with.

Thanks - great suggestions!
by: Charlotte

Thanks for your suggestions - some wonderful ideas - and definitely choose a color you love Vanessa - and will love to live with - you are right P!

There's lots of ideas for window treatment styles and curtain designs, if you want to look into this more, on my pages here...

Don't forget to get sample color swatches of fabrics you are considering - then you can try them out at home for a while with no commitment, to see if they look good in your room (even if they tend to be a bit tiny - they are better than nothing!)

Thanks for the extra suggestions P - and good luck to Vanessa with the crucial color decision!

Charlotte :o)
