White living room advice?

I have a white leather sofa 2 seater 3 seater 1 seater, with white walls.

I need advice on colour of carpet .

...and do you think i should paint the walls white?

...and what colour of pictures should i get?

I have black coffee table and black table lamp.

All advice welcome, thank you

White or Color...?

Hello Margaret

You sound like you have the basis of a great room scheme there, with neutral color sofas that mean the world really is your oyster when it comes to choosing colors for your living room...

An all-white room can look really stunning - but it isn't for everyone, a room without color can soon feel very cold and stark, but many people do like the minimalist look, and the light airy feel.

If you decide to go with mainly white, add interest through textures, such as silks, velvets, faux fur etc, in cushions, throws, rugs etc...

As you already have some black furniture, a monochrome look can be a good way to go - black and white is very striking - a stunning look.

Unfortunately neither black or white are always the best colors for a carpet - white will show marks, while black will show any bits or pet hair very quickly, so unless you are very dedicated to keeping them clean, they may not look their best at all times.

You can choose a carpet in an accent color you might want to add to your room, but if you want to keep it neutral (for future re-decorations perhaps?) greys or browns can be good alternatives.

You might consider painting one or more walls if you do feel like adding a bit of color to your room - an accent/focal wall can add a useful splash of color without being too overwhelming, and allows you to choose something very vibrant and striking.

A bright, vibrant color is the best sort of color to choose with black and white, as these are both such strong colors in their own right.

Hot accent colors right now are things like hot fuschia pink, teal, turquoise, bright red, lime green, orange, bright yellow - all would look stunning with black and white, but keep it bright and vibrant! (no pastels or anything muted looking).

You might also consider a wallpaper on the walls - there are some lovely focal wallpapers with dramatic black and white patterns that could look fantastic, or choose one in your accent color.

As far as choosing art work goes - if you decide to keep your walls white and add color through accents and accessories, try to choose artwork primarily in your accent color (or with this color somewhere in there)...

...if you decide to go with color on your walls, black and white prints would look better and stand out more against the walls, without adding any extra colors to confuse the matter.
