Some Cheap Decorating Ideas you can try This Weekend
Clear out that Clutter
This is a big one for most homes – mine included. Have a good sort out, room by room. Your old clutter can be stored, given to charity, or can even make money for you if you sell it at car boot sales, or on .
You will probably be surprised at how different your room looks, just from having a thorough sort out. We just had a big sort out in a spare room (the first effective clear out in about 7 years I think!! So it was well overdue!).
The difference was actually amazing and the spare room is now so nice we ‘treated’ ourselves to spending a night sleeping in there ourselves!
Now, I know that clearing out the clutter can be a daunting task for anyone – it’s certainly not a task I relish in the slightest!
This e-book is excellent – very thorough, giving tips and instructions for clearing each individual room. I also found it very motivating - perhaps how we were inspired at last to sort our spare room out!!
You can get really different effects in your room just by changing the positions of furniture in your room. You will be surprised at how different your room looks, even with some simple changes.
This is a really easy solution, and one of the best cheap decorating ideas, that can be done in just a few hours. (It might be a good idea to enlist the help of a big, strong friend, for any heavy lifting.)
It also costs nothing!
You can change the furniture around within one room, or even swap furniture between rooms, or even swap the rooms themselves...
...for example, you might want to swap the living room and dining room furniture over, or change bedroom furniture between different bedrooms.
Before you start lugging that big heavy furniture around, spend a little time thinking and planning about what would look best.
Drawing a simple layout plan can really help you with this – and can also inspire you to come up with some really creative furniture arrangements!
Adding color is a really simple way of changing the whole feel of a room. Different colors can give a very different appearance, and feel to any room. I find this one of the cheap decorating ideas with the most impact!
Painting a wall is very cheap – although it may be hard work! You can usually paint most rooms over the course of one day, or a weekend – so it really isn’t a major project.
If you already have furnishings or accessories in a strong color, that you don’t wish to change, you can choose a paint color to match or complement these.
Creativity is the key to really individual, and stunning, cheap decorating ideas. With a little creativity and imagination, you can really make your interior design very personal, and attractive.
Do you have some fabric scraps left over? What about that paint you never got round to using? Or all those old tester pots? What about those old curtains? Or even old clothes?
Are you feeling artistic? What could you make? ...or use them for? Collages? Cushion covers? Throws? Pictures? Murals?
These are all excellent starting points for very effective cheap decorating ideas...
It’s only $1 so its well worth spending this little extra to save you money…
Shop Wisely
Even buying little extras for your interior design projects really needn’t cost you a fortune. You just need to shop clever and shop wisely!
There are always plenty of bargains to be had in home décor stores – and this is particularly the case in this economic downturn, as shops discount, and then discount again, to get customers buying.
If you look about you can get some really good bargains and inspiring cheap decorating ideas at the moment.
Shopping on the internet will usually save you money too. Take a look at my recommended internet stores or search for bargains on .
Second hand, and antique furniture is very good value at the moment. And you should be able to bag yourself a really good quality investment piece, that will last for years, and have a timeless quality...
...that means you don’t need to worry so much about spending money on keeping up with the latest trends!
