I've called it 'Purple Haze' - as it mixes purple with red to create such a striking and vibrant scheme it could almost give you that 'surreal' feeling!

Yes, you heard right - purple and red!

For this look, I've created something a little out of the ordinary - but it's a really bold and beautiful look!

...but not for shrinking violets!

Great to decorate a living room - or any other room in your home you think would benefit from a bit of drama!

These are both very intense colors - and either would make a big impact in any room, just on its own...

...so you can imagine the kind of 'wow' it creates when both are put together!

This is a look that just exudes confidence and drama, so if that sounds like you...

...or if you'd just like a little more confidence, color and vitality in your life...

...this could well be just the look for you!

Traditionally, it is best to keep such strong colors out of small rooms, and especially in such large quantities...

...but here the emphasis isn't about getting a room that looks larger, lighter or more spacious - I'm pretty sure it won't!

...instead it's about creating a look that's truly dramatic, eclectic, vibrant and colorful...

...about creating exciting interior design - something a little different, that although it may not work for everyone's tastes, works for you!

I love this look!

Colors

• Purple and red are obviously the mainstays of the room color choices to decorate a living room...

  ...don't be faint-hearted about it though - if you are going for this look, go for a rich, deep tone of each color, that will really make an impact!

• It's best to choose one of the colors for the basis of the room - and the other in smaller amounts for the accent - for focal points, accessories, cushions, chairs, artworks etc.
• You can also mix in neutrals:
  • Silver or grey gives sophisticated modern interior design ideas to the style - and metallic finishes can help reflect more light for a lighter look, too
  • Black can create even more drama
  • Whites and creams can give visual relief, and lighten the look a little - which can be easier to live with, too

Patterns

• Strangely enough, given that these are strong, bold, impact colors in their own right - this is a look that actually seems to work better when you mix in some pattern...

  ...perhaps to break up the large areas of strong color!

• Slightly more 'curved', floral or fleur-de-lys patterns seem to work particularly well...

  ..and give a lovely, classic, theatrical look to this style to decorate your living room.

• Lots of patterns are good - it's a strong look anyway! But try not to mix together too many different patterns - or create a look that's excessively busy!
• Wallpaper is an excellent place to find patterns - and create a strong focal wall, particularly to decorate a living room - to bring the whole look together...

Try:





• You could also use silver, grey or black - if you want to get the look, without using so much red and purple!

  It still gives a beautiful, dramatic and very sophisticated style, without the intensity of color, which might be a bit overwhelming, for you, or your room!










• Also look out for patterns on:
  • sofa and chair upholstery - particularly one 'accent' chair or sofa
  • curtains
  • cushions - an excellent spot for experimenting with color and pattern (if you just want to dip your toe in!) - and to try-out mixing patterns to decorate your living room

Furniture and Style

• This is one look where you can really go for it in terms of style - if you've chosen to go with the curved patterns in wallpaper or fabric - keep with curves in your furniture style too...
• Traditional or modern styles both work well here:
  • Traditional:
    • Soft and luxurious fabrics (velvets, silks)
    • Period style with those little scrolls, curves and carvings
    • Rich dark woods, silver or metallic paints, or a lightening white
  
  
  

  

  
  
  
  • Modern and Minimal:
    • Works well, too, as a dramatic contrast to the luxury of the pattern and color
    • Don't just choose functional - choose something that's good looking, unusual, funky and interesting - preferably with gorgeous sweeping curves
    • Simple white looks good as a striking contrast to the deep colors

Accessories

• Accessories are really important to help you get the right look to decorate your living room in this style...

  You've already got a lot going on, with the bold colors and patterns, but a few personal touches in accessories can help to bring the look together and help to make it your own...

• This look is really great for anyone interested in an eclectic interior design style - as such strong colors can hold together a variety of different looks for accessories.
• Do try, though, to keep in mind the overall color scheme and style of the room - if you've chosen traditional, intricate carvings on furniture, pick frames and accessories that complement this style...

If your furniture leans towards more modern interior design ideas, and the minimal, perhaps you can also reflect this in your choice of accessories, too.

• It is possible to mix and match - but this works better if you choose one look, or style, as the basis of your decor - and then choose the contrasting piece as the accent, or focal point, that really makes an impact!

I think this is a gorgeous look - it's:

• dramatic

• theatrical
• striking

To decorate your living room like this can create such an impact - but make sure your personality can cope with it!
