- The Questionnaire will help you to gather your thoughts and find out some personal preferences. You will create some interior design information unique to you. This will help you to generate some really unusual interior design ideas that are just right for you and your home.
- These interior design tools are really good from a practical point of view as well - it makes sure you get the design you need as well as the one you want!
- I sometimes discover potential problems - and solve them at this early stage - well before they turn into a massive disaster!
So here it is.... Print it out and use it...... Make plenty of notes now.....
Questionnaire
- What is your approximate budget?
- What activities will happen in the room? eg. eating, watch TV, use phone, do homework?
- Who uses the room? What ages?
- How often is the room used? At what time of the day?
- Is there access into other rooms or outside? Is additional access required?
- Any structural changes? Knock down or add any walls?
- Are any of the following required? Planning permission? Buildings Regulations? Listed Building Consent? (If you are not sure ask at your local council)
- Are you happy with the existing flooring?
- Are you happy with the existing windows and window frames?
- Are you happy with the existing interior and exterior doors?
- Do you want to change or add skirting boards, dado rails or picture rails?
- Is the heating adequate? Do radiators need adding? changing? or covering? Consider an open fire or underfloor heating.
- What direction do any windows face?
- Is there plenty of natural light?
- Are the windows overlooked? Is there a nice view?
- Are the lighting fixtures to be changed? What about the switches?
- Are there enough electric sockets in the room? And are they in the right place?
- What about the TV aerial?
- What about the telephone or internet sockets?
- Is there a natural focal point or feature already in the room, eg. a fireplace? Or does one need to be created?
- Do you think the room seems too small? too tall? too short? too narrow? too wide? too large? too dark?
- Is there enough storage? What do you want to use any storage for?
- Do you need to consider kids/pets and potential damage to your furniture or furnishings in your design?
- Is there anything about the room you really hate?
- Is there anything about the room you really love?
- What pieces of existing furniture? flooring? lighting? pictures? or accessories? do you want to keep in the interior design scheme?
- How do you want to feel when you are in the room?
- Have you fully considered all these questions and your own answers?
- Got all your personal interior design information right in front of you?
- Such interior design tools will give you a good idea of the practical considerations you need from your interior design scheme. You can think about all the points your Questionnaire has uncovered, and make sure they are all covered in your later plans.
